Adhesive types and their applications

An informative guide to all adhesive types and their applications.

Activator (Glue Activator)

Adhesive activation

An activator, also known as a glue activator, is a product used to accelerate the curing or bonding process of adhesives. It is applied to one surface before adhesive application and promotes faster adhesion by initiating the chemical reaction within the adhesive. Activators are commonly used with cyanoacrylate (super glue) adhesives to ensure quick and reliable bonding. They improve the speed of bond formation and enhance bond strength. Activators are particularly useful in applications where rapid adhesion is required, such as in woodworking, model making, or repairs.

Anaerobic Adhesive (Threadlocker)

Instant metal part bonding

Anaerobic adhesives, also known as anaerobic threadlockers, are designed to cure in the absence of air and when confined between metal surfaces. These adhesives remain liquid until isolated from oxygen, allowing them to flow into gaps or threads. Once the adhesive is deprived of oxygen, it initiates a chemical reaction, forming a strong and durable bond. Anaerobic adhesives are commonly used to lock and seal threaded fasteners, preventing loosening due to vibrations or disassembly caused by external forces. They provide excellent resistance to chemicals, heat, and impact, making them suitable for various mechanical and automotive applications.
